Undoubtedly, it is the hard work of the boys involved in the game, who give their output on the ground and are directly responsible for the results. However, the hard work needs to be in the right direction and like any other sport, in cricket too, the team needs a right strategy to win the game. That's when the role of experience comes in, and who is better experienced than “the wall” himself.
At his time, he was the most-trusted batsman of the Indian team. He performed when everyone else in the team surrender. He is the one who absorbed the deadly bowling attacks with remarkable ease. He is the one who rescued the team from the jaws of a humiliating defeat. He is the one who set up a massive target for the opponents and by the mere presence of the wall shatters their hopes. The longer he stayed on the crease, the more becomes the chance of a win or at least a draw for India.
But, this was only his performance on the field. We love Rahul Dravid as a person both on-field and off-field. The wall is known for his humility which is his most cherished quality among all. Even after earning many accolades, he never developed an ego, he must have been the sense of pride, but not ego.
While others did, and have been doing, many things for publicity, Rahul Dravid doesn't even have a Twitter account.
Nevertheless, fate has brought him back under the spotlight of a World Cup winning Coach when India defeated Australia by 8 wickets to hold the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. When India became the first team to win the junior world cup four times. And, what's better than winning it while coaching the squad of teenage players, full of energy and life!
Rahul is known for his humility. It's very difficult to call the legend by his name, I'm doing it only because if he somehow comes across to this blog, he'll become extremely shy. Just kidding.
Take a look at these reactions on Twitter, you'll get to know why Rahul Dravid is a legend...
Yet again silently, Rahul Dravid takes a backseat .What a wonderful man and an inspiration for these boys. No country can boast of having a player anywhere close to his stature working with the junior boys. #BlessedBoys #ICCU19CWC— Mohammad Kaif (@MohammadKaif) February 3, 2018
Finally a World Cup for Rahul Dravid!— Mohandas Menon (@mohanstatsman) February 3, 2018
No one deserves it more than him!#U19CWC
If you’re hardworking and humble and stay in the background, karma will find a way of catapulting you into the limelight somehow. That’s what happens to good people. That’s what happened with Rahul Dravid.— Indranil Das Blah (@indranildasblah) February 3, 2018
Congratulations, legend. And congratulations, boys.
And at last, in his closing comment, he said: "Hopefully it's a memory that they'll cherish for a long long time but hopefully it's not a memory that defines them and they have a lot more".
Only Rahul Dravid can say that!
