Don't Just Set Fitness Goals, Achieve It With Smartness

The dream to be fit and have in possession of tip-top body shape is a dream of people across the globe. Some people will admit it, some won’t. Sometimes, to make this dream come true, we take action (as a reaction of some subversive motivational videos or text) and get ourselves enrolled in a gym or yoga class, eat healthy (and tasteless) food, forcefully digest bitter juice of bitter gourd, and whatnot. But it barely lasts for long-term. Within months, we tend to drop out. The “we” here is most of you and me.

So, why does this happen to most people? Why do we fail to achieve our grand fitness dream? At the end of the day, even after a high dose of motivation, why do we choose to ignore the fitness goal we set in just some days ago? Probably because of the urge for laziness or the cravings for fatty and sugary food items. Or, because it is boring and feels like pain with no gain.

But the fitness dream ain't big, rather it is just the default mode we are supposed to be in. What makes it big and complicated is the lifestyle changes as we become desk-bounded, grown-ups. We choose a lifestyle that is an open invitation to disease and problems indirectly affecting our health and well-being. And, I must say that “health is wealth” is not just a generic advice people distribute one another freely. It is a truism and every conscious mind knows that. But that what is obvious is also easily forgettable. Therefore, we forget this wealth we already possess.

However, technology can help you remember your most valuable wealth. With smart devices up in the market, you can easily monitor your health and enhance your fitness. Actually, fitness enthusiasts are already doing it with products such as smartwatch or fitness band, which is a longstanding product, probably the first fitness tracker of a kind available in India, compared to other products in the evolving smart home market. But, they are also becoming better with the addition of some more useful features.

The major features of a wearable fitness tracker which I found of profound use are:

smartwatch-fitness-bands

Steps Counter

Walking is the most effortless, most affordable and very effective exercise if done regularly. The pedometer in the device helps you track how many steps you walked, just like an odometer in a vehicle. Besides, it can also track your walking speed and altitude from the sea level.

Heartbeat Monitor

The band strapped on the wrist can track the heartbeat and monitor its health. For people with diagnosed heart problems, this becomes a must-have item. It allows you to not let your pulse rise to an abnormal level during workouts. To change improve something, first, you need to accept and monitor it. Not every fitness band has this feature.

Calorie Meter

Another important feature that most of the fitness band provides is to measure the calories you consume and burn during your routine. For example, if you ate high-calorie aloo ka paratha (potato based flatbread toasted with fat) for your dinner, it may suggest you go for a walk. It'll also remind you next morning to burn more calories.

Sleep Monitor

For your mind and your body to function optimally, you need proper sound sleep. Therefore, the latest models of fitness trackers come with a unique sleep monitor that aims to track the number of hours you sleep. They can even judge your sleep quality and tell you whether you are sufficiently rested or not. They tell you how much sleep you optimally need in order to stay healthy.

Setting Fitness Goals

Besides functioning as a personal trainer to you by reminding the fitness goal you set in, it also keeps a log of your activities and reports you the same. It also vouches for the shortcomings your current plan has, if any, giving you a better plan. You only need to take it seriously.

Personally, I use fitness band for measuring how many steps I walked, as calorie meter, and as inactivity reminder. The tiny device also has features to get notifications directly from your smartphone, but I don't use it too often as it's distracting, especially while travelling.

Smart wearable like fitness bands is a great tool available in India and is becoming more affordable too. It is also very popular as a fashion accessory. We may see more products in this segment like smart shoes, smart shirts, etc. Some of them are already available outside India. These trackers can be a game-changer in making fitness a habit, if not an addiction, turning this boring exercise into an exciting game. It helps you to keep in shape and ensure that you don’t cheat on your fitness plans. It thus checks the lazy you and brings forth the healthy you.

The Marvels Of Board Exams

AFTER AN EXHILARATING HOLI, comes the boring and haunting board exam, the exam for which no amount of preparation gives an impression of sufficiency. Students across the nation get excited as well as depressed. They are ‘excitingly depressed’. Excited to give the final exam of their school life, to enter into a new world, and depressed thinking what society would say if their marks won't be that good. Sharma Ji’s meritorious child is making things worse. While the level of questions asked in the exams has become easy these days, the quality of students being produced is decreasing, WhatsApp, Social Media and expansion of internet are to blame. The internet and smartphones may help students in their higher studies, but it misfires in case of younger kids. It only serves as a distraction, the biggest of modern times. Earlier, when kids go out to play some sports , it was treated as a distraction from studies. But now, it has been understood clearly that it wasn't seeing...

The Great Indian Bank Fraud - A Look Into PNB SCAM

India’s second largest bank, PNB, has been duped with a massive amount of 11400 cr by a billionaire jewellery designer Nirav Modi, now a fugitive. Before being named and investigated in the mega- bank-fraud, the celebrity designer has been featured in Forbes India's Richest People List 2016. Not to mention, Mr Modi has been seen in the World Economic Forum summit at Davos with PM Modi himself. It explains his network. There must be multiple levels of corruption involved in Nirav Modi scam — from the highest management in the bank to bureaucracy, all must have colluded together to make this scam come true. Netas, too, are part of big businessman-banker nexus as they are the ones who fund the election campaign secretly. To reiterate, political parties fundings still do not come under the scanner of RTI. Indian Banking Exposed PNB, in a statement, said that fraudulent transactions took place in one of its branches in Mumbai with their apparent connivance. A single br...

A Glimpse Into The Life Of India's Most Trusted Batsman - Rahul Dravid and The World Cup

image credits-  Chubby Chandru THE LEGENDARY CRICKETER, Rahul Dravid has finally quenched his desire of lifting a Cricket World Cup, though not as a skipper, not even as a player — but as a coach. Undoubtedly, it is the hard work of the boys involved in the game, who give their output on the ground and are directly responsible for the results. However, the hard work needs to be in the right direction and like any other sport, in cricket too, the team needs a right strategy to win the game. That's when the role of experience comes in, and who is better experienced than “the wall” himself. At his time, he was the most-trusted batsman of the Indian team. He performed when everyone else in the team surrender. He is the one who absorbed the deadly bowling attacks with remarkable ease. He is the one who rescued the team from the jaws of a humiliating defeat. He is the one who set up a massive target for the opponents and by the mere presence of the wall shatters their hopes. ...

Pakistani Cricketers Anguish Over Kashmir, Or Their Inability To Play In IPL?

From the colonial times, cricket and politics remained an inseparable thing in the Indian subcontinent. Ashutosh Gowariker’s "Lagaan" gives a hint of when did they began mixing together. But the whole episode of Bhuvan ’s struggle of not paying the lagaan (taxes) to the British government —at times of monsoon crisis ( ghanan ghanan )— becomes small and insignificant, if politics over cricket between India and Pakistan is taken into account in the past few years. Just a few days before the commencement of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018, Pakistani cricketers began to shower their ‘alleged’ love and sympathy for Kashmir, now when they know couldn't take part in IPL, they are showcasing their outrage on Twitter —not against IPL— but against Indian army and India as a state. After the 2008 Mumbai attacks, perpetrated by Pakistan based terror organization ' Lashkar-e-Taiba' , the Indian government has put a ban on Pakistani players from participating in I...

The Padmavaat Circus — A Brief Summary

OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS, the nation has witnessed a bizarre issue. We have been battling with the question of whether a film should be allowed to screen or not. It is definitely a matter of concern if a movie is not allowed to be showcased, and even more if the makers and artists receive threats. But, don't you think we gave it more importance than what it really deserved? It certainly was not worthy of the space for prime time debates every single day as if it is the “only” thing India is concerned about. From the beginning, I was appalled by the duration of time Padmavati remain in the news. After the news, they do a stupid TV debate about the same. We then also saw TV anchors giving a "no-objection certificate" to the movie happily. It was at a time when the film had not been even sent to the CBFC.  But, there was a journalist/anchor who was showing the educational crisis in the country instead of a frivolous debate of whether Padmavati to be allowed to rel...

Bhabhiji Ghar Par, Jijaji Chhat Par— A Review Of India's Comedy Serials

Indian television has been doing great with serials like Bhabhiji ghar par hai (Sister-In-Law Is At Home), May I come in Madam, and the latest in the fray, Jijaji chhat par hai (Brother-In-Law Is At The Terrace). However gross these may sound, but it seems to be the reality of Indian television.  But, why are such indecent and depraved shows on the rise? Is it really the people interested? There must be a significant number of people watching such shows to make it viable  as it is not easy to sustain a failed show , especially on TV, where. I won't comment whether these kinds of serials should air on TV or not. It’d be intruding to an artist's freedom of expression, his right to express an idea, be it in form of non-fiction speech, or with some fictional characters telling a story. These shows are just harmless entertainment meant for making you laugh, right? However, if you ask me, my opinion would be that, in the name of comedy, the makers of such sitcoms are either fo...
