Don't Just Set Fitness Goals, Achieve It With Smartness

The dream to be fit and have in possession of tip-top body shape is a dream of people across the globe. Some people will admit it, some won’t. Sometimes, to make this dream come true, we take action (as a reaction of some subversive motivational videos or text) and get ourselves enrolled in a gym or yoga class, eat healthy (and tasteless) food, forcefully digest bitter juice of bitter gourd, and whatnot. But it barely lasts for long-term. Within months, we tend to drop out. The “we” here is most of you and me.

So, why does this happen to most people? Why do we fail to achieve our grand fitness dream? At the end of the day, even after a high dose of motivation, why do we choose to ignore the fitness goal we set in just some days ago? Probably because of the urge for laziness or the cravings for fatty and sugary food items. Or, because it is boring and feels like pain with no gain.

But the fitness dream ain't big, rather it is just the default mode we are supposed to be in. What makes it big and complicated is the lifestyle changes as we become desk-bounded, grown-ups. We choose a lifestyle that is an open invitation to disease and problems indirectly affecting our health and well-being. And, I must say that “health is wealth” is not just a generic advice people distribute one another freely. It is a truism and every conscious mind knows that. But that what is obvious is also easily forgettable. Therefore, we forget this wealth we already possess.

However, technology can help you remember your most valuable wealth. With smart devices up in the market, you can easily monitor your health and enhance your fitness. Actually, fitness enthusiasts are already doing it with products such as smartwatch or fitness band, which is a longstanding product, probably the first fitness tracker of a kind available in India, compared to other products in the evolving smart home market. But, they are also becoming better with the addition of some more useful features.

The major features of a wearable fitness tracker which I found of profound use are:

smartwatch-fitness-bands

Steps Counter

Walking is the most effortless, most affordable and very effective exercise if done regularly. The pedometer in the device helps you track how many steps you walked, just like an odometer in a vehicle. Besides, it can also track your walking speed and altitude from the sea level.

Heartbeat Monitor

The band strapped on the wrist can track the heartbeat and monitor its health. For people with diagnosed heart problems, this becomes a must-have item. It allows you to not let your pulse rise to an abnormal level during workouts. To change improve something, first, you need to accept and monitor it. Not every fitness band has this feature.

Calorie Meter

Another important feature that most of the fitness band provides is to measure the calories you consume and burn during your routine. For example, if you ate high-calorie aloo ka paratha (potato based flatbread toasted with fat) for your dinner, it may suggest you go for a walk. It'll also remind you next morning to burn more calories.

Sleep Monitor

For your mind and your body to function optimally, you need proper sound sleep. Therefore, the latest models of fitness trackers come with a unique sleep monitor that aims to track the number of hours you sleep. They can even judge your sleep quality and tell you whether you are sufficiently rested or not. They tell you how much sleep you optimally need in order to stay healthy.

Setting Fitness Goals

Besides functioning as a personal trainer to you by reminding the fitness goal you set in, it also keeps a log of your activities and reports you the same. It also vouches for the shortcomings your current plan has, if any, giving you a better plan. You only need to take it seriously.

Personally, I use fitness band for measuring how many steps I walked, as calorie meter, and as inactivity reminder. The tiny device also has features to get notifications directly from your smartphone, but I don't use it too often as it's distracting, especially while travelling.

Smart wearable like fitness bands is a great tool available in India and is becoming more affordable too. It is also very popular as a fashion accessory. We may see more products in this segment like smart shoes, smart shirts, etc. Some of them are already available outside India. These trackers can be a game-changer in making fitness a habit, if not an addiction, turning this boring exercise into an exciting game. It helps you to keep in shape and ensure that you don’t cheat on your fitness plans. It thus checks the lazy you and brings forth the healthy you.

Sanjay Dutt Hero Or Villain? A Review Of Sanju Baba’s Journey As Both

The Sanjay Dutt biopic “Sanju” was released on 29th of June made by one of the best filmmakers of the B-town, Rajkumar Hirani. It was marketed as an “unbelievably true story”. Indeed Dutt’s journey is unbelievable. However, there have been many unbelievable personalities too such as Dawood or Osama. Sorry for comparing Dutt with Don and Terrorist. The drugs, booze, women, and AK 56 make Sanju a largely negative character in the real world. Not his fault, according to the film. Some people say Sanjay Dutt doesn’t deserve a biopic as there are many “good” people, with their “good” work, that go unnoticed. The argument over whether Dutt deserves a biopic or not is inane. It’s like saying Dhoni’s biopic should have been made after his retirement. The truth is, biopics are made on interesting people, not the good ones, especially if it is of commercial in nature. If that interesting people is a negative character, it gets more publicity. Also, a “fictional” biopic cannot be real. Be i...

The Great Indian Bank Fraud - A Look Into PNB SCAM

India’s second largest bank, PNB, has been duped with a massive amount of 11400 cr by a billionaire jewellery designer Nirav Modi, now a fugitive. Before being named and investigated in the mega- bank-fraud, the celebrity designer has been featured in Forbes India's Richest People List 2016. Not to mention, Mr Modi has been seen in the World Economic Forum summit at Davos with PM Modi himself. It explains his network. There must be multiple levels of corruption involved in Nirav Modi scam — from the highest management in the bank to bureaucracy, all must have colluded together to make this scam come true. Netas, too, are part of big businessman-banker nexus as they are the ones who fund the election campaign secretly. To reiterate, political parties fundings still do not come under the scanner of RTI. Indian Banking Exposed PNB, in a statement, said that fraudulent transactions took place in one of its branches in Mumbai with their apparent connivance. A single br...

Does India As A State Obliged Towards Her Citizens For Providing Them Employment?

As the Modi-led BJP government has failed to rescue India from Job crisis in its five-year term, the question is whether the government has done enough to maintain the equilibrium in the job market of the country? And whether or not the government should be held liable for creating this crisis in the first place? Screenshot from movie 3 idiots Article 41 {Right to work, to education and to public assistance in certain cases} under DPSP says: “The State shall, within the limits of its economic capacity and development, make effective provision for securing the right to work, to education and to public assistance in cases of unemployment, old age, sickness and disablement, and in other cases of undeserved want.” The DPSP cannot be enforced by any court, but the principles laid down in this part are nevertheless fundamental in the governance of the country, and it should be the duty of the State to apply these principles in making laws. We also need to look back to Mo...

New Year Letter Without Fireworks

Dearest you , First of all, many thanks for being my support all these years… I don't know who I am to you, an honest blogger who expresses his view about the world, or a clown who provide free entertainment for his own fun. So far I’ve only tried to bring forth stories that I believed was worth your time and I'll continue this endeavour. I want you to bear some more of my musings in the form of blog/social media posts but with absolute freedom of your choice. I'm no comedian, but keeping the humour alive is one of the prime objectives of my writings. I can’t sacrifice humour to sound serious and intellectual. But unlike professional comedians, I won't guarantee if I’ll always make you laugh. Sometimes my jokes are really bad. I have no political affiliation, but sometimes I do take sides, not extreme though. The 2019 political battle will be exciting, especially after BJP’s recent defeat in the four major state assembly election. I’ve been quite inconsistent...

Why Unemployment Should Be The Blazing Problem For 2019 Election

In 2014, BJP in their campaign claimed that: there is no Modi-wave but it is the Tsunami of Narendra Modi (TsuNaMo). It now appears that the TsuNaMo was actually Tsunami of joblessness and has silently brought a massive disaster in India. The major victims are the young people who after finishing their education were hoping for a great career ahead. It is the TsuNaMo that has crushed their hope. Now that  chowkidar  Modi is going for his re-election, it's time to make him accountable. Image for representational purpose only If the 2014 election was fought on the issue of corruption, 2019 could have been fought on the issue of unemployment. But it doesn't seem to be progressing that way. As the election approaches, Indian weather is becoming hot with topics associated with nationalism such as Kashmir. The separatists and the  deshdrohis  speaking about  azadi  and removal of the army from disturbed areas of Kashmir only help ...

Accidental Prime Minister Compels India To Talk Manmohan Singh And Corruption Before Election, A Review

The media advisor to former prime minister Manmohan Singh, with his boring job, has been able to commercialize a story of his boss right to the screen. No one would have imagined this possibility when the book was launched in the midst of the 2014 election; when it also made a buzz with the allegations giving birth to controversies. But with the change of government after the election, things cooled down and people forgot their highly qualified yet good-for-nothing economist PM. Only till next election though. ⭐⭐ (2/5) Directed by - Vijay Ratnakar Gutte Starring - Anupam Kher, Akshaye Khanna, Suzanne Bernert Storyline: Non-fiction, dramatized biography of former PM Manmohan Singh Prime characters  Sanjay Baru: Media advisor to the PM and the narrator Manmohan Singh: The Accidental Prime Minister (2003-2014) Sonia Gandhi: The villain-in-chief, is an evil Italian woman using proxies to get hold of power and control things remotely through Manmohan Singh Rahul Gandhi: ...

The Story Of World's Longest Human Chain - Bihar Manav Shrinkhla

On January 21, 2018, (the people of) Bihar assembled together to form a human chain, the manav shrinkhla . It was the world's longest human chain ever formed. Last year, exactly on the same date, Bihar had formed a similar human chain to show their firm stand against alcoholism . At that moment, it was also claimed and publicized as the largest human chain ever formed in the world. But this year, it has been covered only as a news and not discussed widely on the Op-ed page. So, probably I’m filling the spaces our mediawallahs has left empty. For your information, a human chain is a demonstration by the masses to show political solidarity, for or against a cause, in which people link arms with one another to form a large chain. Usually, the organizers of such event put an exaggerated data to the public in order to show how genuine their concern is. Still, it's a universal method to win support and encouragement of the public. We can say that Bihar government has act...
